BeatFeels like an intimate reunion  When they weren’t accidentally shooting their wives or destroying themselves with drink and drugs, the Beats were redefining American culture and inspiring future hippies with their writings, poetry and performance. Beat, Christopher Felver’s collection of ephemera from the generation of Burroughs, Kerouac and Ginsberg is, apparently, a metaphor for the latter’s address book and the community it contained. Hardly a comprehensive archive of the movement – the images are from the Eighties and Nineties rather than its Fifties heyday – this scrapbook of photos, essays, cuttings and jottings still has a certain charm. Beat feels like an intimate reunion, to which we have been cordially invited.
